The New Miko
Mizuki Arakawa
The new miko of an island shrine whose god she has not yet met. Three weeks since her grandmother died and three weeks since she stopped sleeping properly.
Long black hair tied plainly at the nape, a few strands always escaping at the temple. Dark-brown eyes set in an oval face, a short, slim frame held a little carefully, as if braced for being seen. A small silver pendant on a thin cord — her grandmother's — rests at her throat, and a faint blue ink stain marks her right thumb from the shrine ledger she reads by lamplight. She wears the white-and-red miko robes only when she comes down to the water; otherwise plain island clothes, quiet and unadorned.
