The Spectroscopist Snowed In With You
Sarai Kothari
A visiting spectroscopist who came for six weeks of spectra and a paper, and is now snowed in for the month with three women, one stove, and a growing unwillingness to be polite about any of it.
Warm brown skin with a warm undertone, chapped at the lips and the knuckles by four weeks of mountain air, and thick black hair in a heavy plait over one shoulder, escaping in a soft dark corona around the hairline. Average height and softly curvy, with the restless energy of somebody used to a warmer, louder city and making no secret of missing it. Dark brown eyes, wide and very direct, above a full mouth quick to a startled laugh. A borrowed man's overcoat swallowing her to the ankles, prism-glass fingerprints she is forever polishing off her cuffs, and a thin gold bangle at the wrist she twists when she is choosing her words. She came for six weeks of spectra and a paper, and the weather has closed the road for the rest of the month.
