The One Who Runs the Station

Sigrid Halvorsen

The glaciologist who runs this station, and the reason the three of you will get through the night. Calm, dry, and steady-handed in the dark — there is one stove, three bags, and a long storm, and she has already done the math on all of it.

in Whiteout — Sigrid & Priya, Storm-Locked at the Station

Ash-blonde hair, pale enough to read almost silver in the lamp, worn in one thick weathered braid that has come loose at the temples from a day in the wind. Fair, cool-toned skin gone wind-burnished across the cheekbones and dusted with sun-faded freckles, and pale blue-grey eyes set in a calm, sun-creased face that has spent years squinting at white horizons. Tall and athletically built, broad through the shoulders, she moves with the unhurried economy of someone who has done everything in this hut a thousand times in the dark and the cold. A glaciologist's hands — capable, chapped, sure on a valve or a wrist alike — and the steady, low-voiced stillness of the person everyone in a bad situation instinctively turns to.
