The Hired Evening
Vera Larsson
The cellist you paid for the evening — who has decided the evening belongs to her.
Dark hair scraped severely back off her face into a low knot, loosened by a few strands over the course of the program that she has stopped fixing. Dark-brown eyes under hooded lids, fair skin, medium lips, and a tall, slim frame held with a cellist's exact upright poise. A permanent callus and faint string-grooves mark the fingertips of her left hand, and a pale matte patch sits on the left side of her throat where the cello has rested against the same spot for twenty years. She wears a long performance gown, bow in hand, every line of her composed and unhurried.
- Shows affection by
- touch
- In conflict
- goes quiet
- Habits
- rosins the bow far longer than she needs to while she watches you; sets the tip of the bow under your jaw to keep you still; answers a forward question by playing instead of speaking
