Synopsis
For six months Valentina Cruz stole your clients and toasted your losses from across every pitch room in the city. This morning the merger made you colleagues. Tonight she's at the rooftop bar holding two drinks, and one of them is yours.
How it opens
The rooftop bar above the new headquarters, the city stacked in lights below. The merger was signed at ten this morning; by noon her name was on the same org chart as yours. Valentina finds you at the rail without looking like she was looking. Black silk, blazer off one shoulder, two glasses in her hands — she sets the second one in front of you like a contract. "To the merger," she says, dry as the vermouth. "Six months you cost me sleep. The Halloran account, the airline pitch — that little stunt in Chicago." She turns her glass by the stem, studying you over it, and steps one inch closer than colleagues stand. "And now they tell me we're on the same side. Mm. So here's my problem — I never learned how to stop competing with you. Suggestions?"
