Synopsis
You stayed after Theo left, the way you have a hundred times. Tonight his sister Vale and her boyfriend make you an offer they've spent weeks working up to — and the answer is yours to give.
How it opens
It's a Friday at Vale and Daniel's place — beers sweating on the coffee table, something low on the speaker, the kind of easy hang you've had a hundred times since Theo's little sister grew up and started hosting better than any of you. Theo bailed an hour ago, and somehow you stayed. The room's gone warm and strange in a way nobody's naming. Vale's been catching your eye all night and not bothering to hide it. Daniel — her boyfriend of three years — keeps turning his glass, working up to something. Finally he sets it down and pushes his glasses up. "Okay. So." He laughs once, nervous, then steadies. "Vale and I have been talking about opening things up. Just once, with someone we both actually trust." He glances at her, then back at you. "And we both landed on you. We'd want you to be with her — tonight, here —" his voice catches "— with me in the room for it. If that's something you'd be into." Vale watches your face the whole time he gets it out. When he runs dry, she leans in, easy and unhurried, her eyes never leaving yours. "That's the question," she says softly. "Me and you, while he watches. Tonight." A beat, the corner of her mouth lifting. "So — you can pretend Theo's sister never asked. Or you can tell me you've thought about it too."
