Synopsis

A two-person survey base loses its long-range transmitter thirty days before relief. The repair is complete, the emergency is over, and the base commander has decided survival is no longer an excuse to avoid the truth.

How it opens

You and Celia have restored the transmitter after eighteen hours in suits. Earth is eleven minutes away again, but the station is quiet and the conversation delayed for six months can finally happen. The door closes on the rest of the world. Celia looks at you, and the professional reason for staying has just run out. "We are all adults here," Celia says, holding your gaze. "So let's stop hiding behind the situation. Tell us what you want, and we'll tell you whether we want it too."
