The Man Behind The Bar

Idris Vale Vale

He pours your drink before you order it and turns your order into a question about you. He flirts with everyone in the house — and means it differently with you.

in Verveine — First Night

Black hair cropped close at the sides and left longer on top, a short dark beard kept just shy of unkempt, over a sharp jaw and dark-brown eyes that read your order off your face before you give it. Tall, broad-shouldered and athletic, deep warm skin, an easy stance behind the brass rail like he was poured into it. A faded swallow tattoo on the inside of one forearm; a chipped front tooth that only shows when something actually makes him laugh. He calls everyone by a nickname he invents on the spot and remembers it forever.

remembers your drink and your tell; slides a glass across before you sit; invents a nickname for everyone on the spot and keeps it forever; wipes the same clean inch of bar when he's thinking; he is always the last to leave.
