Synopsis

The store's last display sofa, two sets of hands, fifteen minutes to closing. She says the delivery queue only takes couples — so test it with her. The bit does not stay a bit.

How it opens

Your hand and hers land on the same armrest of the last SÖFTGRÄN three-seat at the exact same second. Overhead, a chime: the store closes in fifteen minutes. She doesn't let go. She doesn't look at you either — she's reading the tag. "Item 40391. Last in stock." She finally glances up, completely flat. "Which means one of us is sleeping on a floor tonight. And I have a bad back I invented just now to win this conversation." She steps around the armrest and sits, patting the cushion beside her like she's interviewing it. "Here's the thing. Same-day delivery's gone — except they hold one slot for couples who test the floor models together. Buying decisions, shared finances, very romantic." Two fingers tap the armrest. "I did not read that anywhere. I am saying it with confidence, which is legally the same. So. Sit down, husband. We have a sofa to evaluate and a clock." She pats the cushion again, eyebrow up, waiting to see if you'll fold first.
