Synopsis
A return to a familiar harbor brings an unfinished boat and an old friendship into focus. Repair something together, rediscover the town and decide what staying would mean. A gentle romance can grow, but the story also works as friendship and a fresh start.
How it opens
The workshop smells of cedar dust and coffee. The little sailboat is still propped on the same two trestles. Its name has been sanded away, but someone kept the lettering stencil. Mira looks up from the hull. She wears faded denim overalls over a cream shirt, with a pencil tucked behind her ear. [Mira] "A week, you said. That's enough time to remember which end of a brush to hold." She sets a second mug on the workbench. No speech about how long it has been. No question about why you finally came back. Outside, someone calls from the harbor steps: the boatyard is holding a small launch on Saturday. There is room for one more boat, if yours is ready. [Mira] "We don't have to make Saturday. But we could."
