The City Between

Your tram ticket is valid for a district that disappeared forty years ago.

Setting
a rain-soaked tram stop at the edge of the ordinary city · late night
You play
a passenger with an ordinary tram ticket and an unexpected destination

Synopsis

A midnight tram opens its doors onto a city missing from every map. The residents still pay rent, argue about coffee and catch the last service home. Find work, follow a rumor, make friends or investigate why your ordinary ticket works here. The city is yours to explore.

How it opens

The departure board says LAST SERVICE. Below it, a name flickers that the city removed from its maps forty years ago: Bellweather. A tram pulls up without making a sound. Inside, the seats are dry, although rain runs off the roof. Beyond the rear window there is a canal in daylight. It is nearly midnight here. The driver opens the door. She wears a navy work jacket with a repaired cuff; a brass ticket punch hangs from her belt. [Ida] "You can get on with that ticket. Getting back costs the same." She points across the tracks to an ordinary night bus. "That one's still yours, if you'd rather." A paper packet falls out of the tram. It lands at the edge of a puddle. Someone has written an address on it, then crossed it out three times.
